Donald Munro, Inverness – holiday wish of a life time to Canada

My name is Donald Munro, I live in Inverness. I'm 30 years old and I suffer from a disability know as Dystonia which affects the brain signals to the rest of the body resulting in the body having spasms. I've had the disability since I was 7 years old.

Life was very difficult and confusing when the disability was starting to take affect. I could no longer join in the simple games I used to play with my friends like football or ride our bikes through the village, but my friends never left me out.

Dystonia was very rare in the 80's, so I spent a lot of time going from hospital to hospital getting tests done which sometimes meant missing school (I didn't mind that) and some of the holidays (that I hated.)

Although the Dystonia has changed my life dramatically I've never let it get in the way of me making the best out of my life.

I've done almost everything I want to do that is physically possible.

Two years ago I started looking into a holiday I've always wanted, a holiday of a life-time to the United States and Canada, but because I can't travel by air due to my disability it would have to be by cruise.

I started emailing different travel agencies who were doing holiday cruises to these locations and found it to be extremely expensive due to paying for myself and two carers which I need for daily support.

At the beginning of the year I looked into the holiday again and found a cruise going to the US and Canada next September which gives me some time to save up, but with the government threatening to take away some of the benefits that I'm on I'm afraid it's going to leave me short.

This holiday will provide me unique opportunities to experience new challenges and enhance quality of my life. Due to me requiring and funding essential carers this adds significant expense to the holiday and I need to raise the required funds.

The total of £8000 is to cover the way I have to travel increasing costs for additional accommodation for my carer’s.

Therefore any contribution you might feel able to make towards this total cost would be greatly appreciated.
