Government Bill calls for single assessment process for disability benefits

Jeremy Hunt has today introduced the Disability Benefits (Single Assessment) Bill to the House of Commons.

The 10 minute rule bill calls for a single assessment process for disability benefits, as the current system is complex and convoluted and causes extra stress and frustration for disabled people.

It would require the Department for Work and Pensions to set up an IT programme so that disabled people are only asked questions about their disability once. However, information would only be shared between different government departments with the permission of a disabled person.
